Next tropical depression could form ‘at any time’

The National Hurricane Center said at 4:15 p.m. Sunday that the tropical disturbance that was near Puerto Rico is right on top of the island, ratcheting up winds of 30 to 35 mph and dropping lots of rain.

The disturbance hadn’t garnered enough strength to morph into Tropical Depression No. 11, though that could happen “at any time,” according to the center’s special statement.

During the next day or two, the low-pressure is expected to move generally northward.

But regardless of where it goes or becomes, the disturbance will continue to deluge Puerto Rico as well as the United States and the British Virgin Islands through Monday. The rains could cause “life-threatening flash floods and mudslides,” the special statement said.
