Miami-Dade library system wins national award

The Miami-Dade Public Library System has been awarded the 2008 National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

First Lady Laura Bush will deliver the award at a White House ceremony Tuesday. The award is given to the top five libraries and best five museums for improving a community’s quality of life. Each institution receives a medal and $10,000.

The county library system received the 2008 award for its Art of Storytelling seminars, its Science Math Reading and Tutoring program, known as SMART, and its Learn to Love Reading program
